American rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine was sentenced to three months in jail after a hearing held in Federal Court in New York, where it was also determined that he will complete 12 months of supervised release afterward.
The decision surprised many, as he had faced the possibility of up to nine months in prison before the judge opted for a shorter sentence.
Reporter Gelena Solano from El Gordo y La Flaca shared that the atmosphere in the courtroom was tense and emotionally charged throughout the hearing.
“In truth, we experienced a mix of very strong emotions here, and I can say that Tekashi 6ix9ine is very lucky, all things considered,” Solano said.

During the broadcast, the journalist explained that the artist must surrender to authorities on January 5 at 2:00 p.m. in Brooklyn.
The sentence comes after the rapper pleaded guilty to possessing prohibited substances and assaulting a man—charges included in the case.

The program showed images of the rapper leaving the courthouse, where he said he would use the three months to “lose weight,” a comment he made while noting that he considered the sentence balanced given the circumstances.
The artist avoided a harsher punishment that initially included nine months in prison and two years of supervision—a penalty ultimately reduced by the court.
The reaction from the public and those who accompanied him to the hearing reflected relief after the verdict was made known.

Natividad Pérez-Hernández, the artist’s mother, thanked reporters present and expressed satisfaction with the judge’s decision.
“Thank you for coming, I appreciate that you were here with us… I was very satisfied with my son’s sentence, and we’ll see you soon,” she said.
She added that she considers the ruling a positive sign: “It is fair because God is protecting him from something bad.” After the report, Lili Estefan reacted by highlighting the rapper’s human side: “Every time he has come here, he has a beautiful heart.”
